New World Order?

In Uncategorized on October 25, 2010 at 1:37 am

First of all, our website has been updated enough that we’re ready to tell people: Check it out!

Second, I was reading an article in the news today, and I wanted to comment on it. Feel free to respond to my comments, whether you agree or disagree.
The article can be found here.

1) I don’t think that a new world order is that bad of an idea. The West has been dominating the rest of the world for years, and maybe it’s time for that to change. I don’t, however, think that Venezuela and Iran are necessarily the countries that should be in power.
2) When I read that Ahmadinejad said he wanted to create this new world order “based on humanity and justice,” I very nearly laughed. I would have if this weren’t such a serious issue.

What do you think about the idea of a new world order, especially one involving Iran and Venezuela?

Esfahan photos

In Uncategorized on October 17, 2010 at 1:44 pm

A while ago, someone sent me a bunch of pictures of his hometown, Esfahan, Iran. I’m not sure where he got them (probably Google), but I thought I’d share my favorite ten of them. If you know what any of these buildings are, please tell me so that I can properly name the pictures.

As usual, you can click on the pictures to make them bigger.

SVF Grant and News

In Uncategorized on October 14, 2010 at 12:41 am

I got an e-mail back from the people who decide who gets the Social Venture Fund grants, and they said they’ll still consider my grant proposal even though it was late, but priority will be given ot those who got it in on time.

An explosion on Tuesday at an Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps base in a remote area of southwestern Iran killed 18 members of the powerful military organization and wounded 14 more, Iranian state news media reported on Wednesday.

Grants

Unfortunately, I was sick on Friday and didn’t have my laptop charger over the weekend, so I wasn’t able to get the grants in on time. I sent one of them late, with the hope that they’ll consider it anyway.

I did go and get the brochures printed yesterday, though.

Grants

We have two grant applications due this Friday that we need to finish. They’re both for Hampshire College. One is the Culture, Brain, and Development grant, and the other is the Social Venture Fund grant. I think we’re probably more likely to get the latter, but I really don’t know.

Brochure

In Uncategorized on October 5, 2010 at 11:24 am

Thanks to a volunteer named Donna, we now have a brochure! There are a few edits in them that I think we’ll make, but right now Donna’s busy being a senior in college, so we won’t bother her for a little while.

You can click on the pictures to make them slightly bigger. If you want them even bigger, click on them again.

Now I just need to go and get these printed. Then we can start using them, which will be exciting.

Website and event

In Uncategorized on October 1, 2010 at 9:07 pm

We’ve been working on our website, and when we’re done, we’ll give out the url. For now, it’s a surprise. Unfortunately, my computer has a virus that won’t allow me to edit our website, so it’s taking a little longer than it should.

We’re throwing our first event on October 22nd, so we really need to start working on that more. It’s an international dinner at the Red Barn at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA. We’re throwing it with Hampshire’s chapters of Amnesty International and Project Nur.
