Are We Waiting on the World to Change?

In Uncategorized on September 25, 2010 at 5:27 pm

“They say we stand for nothing and
There’s no way we ever could

Now we see everything that’s going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don’t have the means
To rise above and beat it

So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change”

-John Mayer, “Waiting on the World to Change”

Someday, my generation is going to be in power. I wonder what life will be like when that happens. Will the world be any more peaceful and will we be more understanding of others? Or will everything be the same as it is now? There’s a Ben Folds song called “The Ascent of Stan” in which he sing “Once you wanted revolution/Now you’re the institution/How’s it feel to be the man?/It’s no fun to be the man.” Maybe my generation, which I feel is change-oriented, will be exactly like the current generation of leaders. Maybe by the time we’ve grown up, we won’t be change-oriented anymore. That would be a catastrophe, a sin against the human race.

I don’t believe that my generation stands for nothing. We might be seen that way, but we stand up and voice our opinions often. We’re not paid attention to frequently, but that doesn’t mean we don’t stand for anything. We do have the means to “rise above and beat it.” There’s no giving up. We can change the world if we try.
